I became really sick of development a few years back, but then I became a contractor and found I started to enjoy it again. So I suspect it was just doing the same thing for too long.

It is rewarding when you deliver something, or just get to a point of something working. What I'm finding more and more though is that I enjoy the part of my job which is working with other people, i.e. talking to users, having technical discussions with other developers etc., but sitting down alone at a computer and writing or debugging code often bores me to death.

It's probably natures way of telling me it's time to move into management.

if I could make the same money doing something else, I'd drop everything and start in the next 10 seconds, the only time I want to see a computer again is when I upload the latest jepps/garmin airspace routes before I climb into an amphibious beaver.......... that and not having to wear shoes

the pregnancy stories are true, about 1/2 month in you won't be allowed near her breasts, about 4/5 in she'll be gagging for it, after the birth expect to wait a while (2-3 months longer if it's a difficult birth) and did I mention lack of sleep ?

I had exactly one contract that I actually enjoyed... ruined it for the rest of the tedious crap that I did.

When I was a mainframe programmer I didn't expect to enjoy it, I expected it to be just a job. Turned out it gave me a lot of job satisfaction and little or no grief (perhaps because it was just a job).

Then along came PCs, you could have one at home, you could program for fun!! I worked on integrating home and work, learning languages etc on my own and shifting my career focus, so that it wouldn't be just a job any more. Ever since then it's been less rewarding, if not an outright disappointment.

I don't have any experience of this situation myself, but from what I have been told, around about five months gone your wife will get very horny. After the birth you wont be aloud anywhere near for two years.
