Sorry - I wasnt clear. In the 80s, people gave labels (Yuppie, etc) to the career types in society, and Kevin/Tracey was the lower class stereotype. But I don't remember them as having the violent/anti-social image which is the benchmark of today's chav?

No problem, it's probably becuase the underclass wasn't so big in those days. The chav equivalent were those who lived in council houses.

I think the Kevin/Wayne/Sharon/Tracy generation are approaching their forties now? There were no chavs in the 80s (well there were but they didnt have the tag - in those days it was Yuppie or Dinkie). For some reason, those names just aren't popular anymore.
