Trawling through my Inbox this evening, I was reading an email from an old contractor colleague who took a permanent job in London.

When the congestion charge originally came in, he decided it was too expensive and so swapped his car for public transport. He used to drive to the edge of the orignal zone and park up to get the bus in. Parking and the bus remained cheaper than the congestion charge.

So far so good. My mate is doing something for the environment despite the whole journey taking and hour.

Now that Ken has extended the congestion charge westward, my mate is just outside the new border, living in Shepherd's Bush. To get in by public transport is now 90+ mins. So he's thought, 'feck it' I might as well drive in, it takes 50 mins and take the congestion hit.

Apparently, quite a lot of people who were using public transport, are now back in their cars.

Laugh? I nearly bought a round!
