There isnt that much cat in York. If you want women then Sunderland/Newcastle is the place to be. Sexy and as game as a badger!

Being a highways engineer, i have only come across 3 female engineers in the past 5 years so i've always worked with blokes. I dont think i could work with women. They to easy going and laid back for engineering. You need testostrone in this field especially when you bossing around contractors when they put the kerbs in the wrong place

And being in Highways, all the work on roads is carried out by the goverment so i'll end up working for local authorities and the Highways Agency all my life!
Ahh well, i'll always have flexi time to abuse and plenty of site work where i just go home or do my shopping!

How do you find (edit: experience not locate ) gov contracts? I've had a few enquiries and I've always avoided them. It's difficult to say why; bad press, complicated working conditions? More bad press? How are you cleared from a security stand point? I've nothing to hide, but I imagine it would take a while to gain clearance?

With my contractor head on I'm laughing, but the socialist in me is absolutely disgusted. I have some inner turmoil issues going on at the moment!

Just take a look around you, even on your over inflated rates you're still probably more valuable than most of the civil servants who treat work a bit like school, give it few weeks and you'll know what I mean.

I had my fair share of being shafted in permy life so I take full advantage these days, I am totally and unashamedly mercenary.

Someone is going to be doing it... might as well be you!

If it's a typical government/IBM project then there's a chance they've let you go on friday too but not told you.

Suggest you knock up some documents from the guy who retired, authorising your own project with unlimited funds. Get some of us 'professionals' in to help you and put your feet up whilst you plan some off-site meetings. Will be as productive/efficient as any other govenment based project being led by IBM, maybe more so.
