This is a typical example of "informed" opinion from the masses.
Gerrard was great last night, but in the more difficult Israel game the stats show Lampard was more successful at each of passing, tackling and creating chances than he was.
You can play one or the other, but not both it seems.
Aye as I pointed out elsewhere. It seems most "fans" just listen to what they are told in the media, rather than thinking for themselves.
What say you and I take over as joint national managers? I'll perform the Venables role and you can take the flak

I'm not sure about the players not being good enough (apart from the lack of strikers), but you're right, there is definitely something about the set-up over here that fecks up our national side.
Fair enough, the talent does exist but is trained in the wrong way. France's recent success is no accident - in the 80s they overhauled their academy system with the results we have seen in the last few years. It took 10-15 years before the new players fed through the system. It will take nothing less to achieve the same results here.
Yes. The players aren't good enough. The Premiership emphasises force and speed at the expense of thought and technique. We always lose when we play the more subtle technical teams.

Yes I shall be in the Mill Stad tonight watching the mighty reds scrape to a draw against San Marino - whats the betting on Toshack & McClaren both getting sacked this time tomorrow ?
Can we buy Bellamy and Giggs off you? Or even Earnshaw?
Yeah, what's the point in that? England fans aren't happy unless England are winning the world cup or Euros every year.
We've tried about ten different managers over about 20 tournaments since 1966, without even reaching a final, so perhaps the problem runs a bit deeper than the manager?

Oy! We all know where you come from with a name like that!
