But it is a different set - my brother goes to Afghanistan in a few weeks. For the last year hes been pushing paper round Whitehall.

How about National Service for immigrants rather than the wishy-washy "community service" idea.

You want to come to the UK and enjoy the benefits, prove your loyalty by first serving a 6 month stint in Afghanistan.

Indeed, Tony can trumpet the results of a succesful policy and Des can big up our commitment to Afghanistan... tough on terrorism, tough on the causes of terrorism...and the body bags will keep on coming home

btw why not trial our ID cards in Afghanistan?
