I've been to Nordkapp.... most depressing time of my life, although www.visitnorthcape.no suggests otherwise:
Actually been there 3 times - 2 in the rain and once in the sunshine ... much better to do the fjords in the sunshine (www.statetheobvious.com)Welcome to North Cape 71° North. North Cape is a monumental experience and offers a fascinating view from 307 meter above the North Atlantic Ocean,
Memories were of mega wonga alcohol and wondering how people can put up with total darkness for chunks of the year....

And alcohol is eye-wateringly expensive in Scandinavia. Also, driving after even 1 single drink is a total no-no.Originally posted by PaddyBy car the following is compulsory:
Reflective jackets for you and passage’s (If your car breaks on a Motorway)
DIN standard first Aid Kit.
DIN Fire Extinguisher.
Norway two reflective triangles. (One for front, one for rear)
It looks as though you can drive as far as the Russian Boarder. I think studded tyre are compulsory an icy roads. (They were in the winter in Oslo. ) You maybe able to hire them.
Also take a couple of bottles of whisky and some wine, they make a good trade.
Take spare spectacles in the car if you need them (legal requirement in many places), and a EHIC (the "E101" replacement card).

the worst thing in scandinavia is the speed limits, you drive up through Germany flat-out, get to scandinavia and everyone's doing 60mph in all three lanes !!!!
and I have never seen so many old volvos ! all the ones over 5 years old that would have been scrapped in the UK they're all here, millions of 740 estates from the late 80's !

I'm still on Gran Canaria, working from a villa with a lovely view.Originally posted by SpacecadetWatch out for a fat bloke riding a bike, the pie he's eating might obstruct his vision!
Main thing to watch out for is the Danish drivers. I think they are the worst drivers in the world, probably. Obeying speed limits, red lights, simple courtesies like using indicators or even looking before pulling out only occur by accident or if there is a plod about. I guess you're going straight up Jylland. They are on the whole better drivers there than on Sjælland, but it will still be quite a bit of a shock after driving through Germany.
