    Yeah, the one in the picture is the second sign you come across. I couldn't find a picture of the illuminated one. The people caught speeding were claiming that the illumnated signs were illegal because they have that thin black band around them...

    Two police officers who successfully challenged speeding charges because road signs had an illegal black border should still face disciplinary action, a council chief said on Wednesday.

    Cleveland Police dropped the case when the officers from the neighbouring North Yorkshire force were advised by a colleague that road signs warning drivers about speed cameras on the A171 near Guisborough were incorrect.

    Looking at the picture, the 20 mph signs seem to be illegal in another way. Tower Bridge Road is part of the A100, a major road. According the Road Traffic act any change in urban speed restrictions within a major road with streetlights must be accompanied by illuminated speed restriction signs. The signs in the picture are not illuminated.
