Best Ipod Speakers ??

These specialist hifi shops make a mint out of convincing/deceiving their punters, I read about a hifi show where one of the main demonstrators forgot to pack the speaker cable for their stand so they cut the ends off an electrical extension lead and used that, I can just imagine all those beardy buffs standing there admiring and nodding their heads in appreciation of the £xxx's worth of equipment whilst round the back its all bodged up with orange electrical wire suckers!

I used to know one of the "Golden Eared" ones... allegedly reviewed stuff & priced it for this country.

Had a parallel tracking turntable with airbearing arm, valve preamp and amp, and a pair of fecking enormous (6 feet tall) speakers... which were attatched to the mandatory expensive speaker cables... which went back to the valve amp but were too big for the terminals... so it was connected via a bit of thick twin & earth...

Whole lot was about £20 -25k back then (16 years ago...).

Comfortably Numb sounded quite good through it all though.

Is it one of those sub 6hz rotory type woofers that you don't hear but feel and that cost £25k and keep the room cool at the same time? if not don't bother... well someones got to invent stuff for premiership footballers to spend their money on!

Another one that gets me is the 'Toslink' optical cables, its a fibre optic cable that transmits 0's & 1's yet somehow some people seem to think that you get a better quality of 0's & 1's when you spend £50 rather than £1.99

No doubt along with erudite discussions of the right kind of green ink to apply to one's CDs to enhance the listening experience by reducing reflections...

I kid you not...

"Is it worth spending a lot of money on speaker cable" is the never ending debate on there, some guys swear buy it others say more than a £1 a meter and you're wasting your money, I once saw an ad for speaker cable that was £12,000 for 6 meters!!! The latest trend is to braid several cat5e data cables ... I bought the £1 a meter stuff!

The funny thing is the so called 'audiophiles' who are usually in their 50's are spending stupid money trying to recreate the perfect sound whilst their ears are nowhere near as good as a teenager who's happy with an ipod!

I've heard the official apple one's in John Lewis and thought they sounded great, look nice too.

Not heard the Bose but they have dropped the audio ball in recent years if you ask me.

Got to buy some Ipod speakers as a pressy, whats the best all round from this lot. Its for one of the big ipods not a nano or that match box size one
