“Documents will also include plans to crack down on firms promoting questionable income tax avoidance schemes, typically used by contractors and freelance agency workers.”

DOOM: Experts fear stealth freelancer tax rises on 'Tax Day'
“Plans for tax rises affecting the self-employed will be disguised in official documents and released on “tax day” on Tuesday, experts have warned.
The Government has attempted to play down speculation of imminent changes to duties but HM Treasury will publish some 30 consultation papers left over from the Budget, on its 10-year tax administration strategy.
Documents will contain a number of “mini-announcements”, according to Treasury sources, setting out policy ideas for changes in the tax system in future.
This could mean tighter tax treatment for the self-employed in future years, experts warned, as well as new taxes for online retailers. The Treasury must raise revenue to offset the £400bn black hole in the public finances caused by the pandemic.
Nimesh Shah of tax firm Blick Rothenberg said: “The Treasury is clear that 'tax day' will be focused on tax administration, but it could still sneak in proposals for future tax rises. This could include harmonising National Insurance for the self-employed, a review of capital gains tax and property taxation.”
