At the time these bailouts first appeared some argued it would have been fairer to give every business and self-employed person an unconditional grant as a tax advance that would then be recouped on the next tax return or self-assessment if it shows they didn't need it.
Instead many fell through the cracks and were told to rely on universal credit or other pitiful handouts for those suddenly without an income through no fault of their own, yet with all the bills and debts from their now unviable business.
Alternatively tax all those that caught covid and survived, it's what the economy was trashed for, so they should be grateful to be able to pay their dues back to society. Raid those pensions.
