“ More than 10,000 turkeys are set to be culled at a farm in North Yorkshire in an effort to contain an outbreak of Avian influenza, the Government has confirmed.

A 3km and 10km “temporary control zone” has been imposed around a turkey fattening premises near Northallerton, after a highly pathogenic strain of H5N8 was detected on Saturday.

The strain has recently been identified on several farms in Europe and led to the culling of more than 13,000 chickens in Cheshire earlier this month, but poses little risk to human health or food safety.”
