Some people need the nanny state to approve their relationship. They need to feel they are being supervised, otherwise their life falls apart (mostly in their imagination).

Isn't this all a bit chicken and egg? Presumably one of the reasons married couples stay together is they felt they were committed enough to each other to get married. If you start offering a financial incentive people might start entering marriages on a less firm footing?

I've been cohabiting for the same amount of years as that person has been alive, never hurt me. In fact I find it much better than the old fashioned concept of having to go through the whole marriage concept
