    Germany is currently spending $6bn annually to keep open unprofitable pits, and German coal now costs four times more to produce than the world average
    This is a similar situation to British coal mining in the 70's - would you advocate spending £6bn to keep the mines open?

    Just look at the way we let Maggie close the shipyards and the mines leaving the place with 10 years of economic wilderness...

    Place seems to be finally enjoying the northern prosperity that Newcastle has been wallowing in for the last 5 years!
