4 bed detached worth 280k (I owe 60k on it). Paid 110, should have maxed out when offered 186k at the time and bought as big as I could, but it's easy to say that now.
Pep's Isa's and shares worth about 100k which are ticking over nicely and I have missed the BTL boat so I don't worry about it. Plan to be able to bail at 55 if I have to and at 60 for certain.

My parents were comfortable but lived modestly for 40 years and have ended up with substantial reserves in property and investments, meaning they could have spent much more than they did.
Money gives you freedom and choices e.g. whether to work, where to go, what to do. I like to have some stashed but you really have to squeeze some fun out of it while you are here (briefly)

I have a 4-bed detached house in Edlesborough. Feck knows what it's worth, but I still owe 45 grand on it.

We used to live in a four storey round the corner from there in the early '70s. Shame the folks sold up. Didn't even make 12 thou then. Ah well.

"MF, have you bought houses from auctions?? I've been trying to look into it recently, but worried cuz of the commitment of having to go through the deal once the hammer goes down..."

For some reason they never go on the boards at estate agents always at auction. You also need to be able to move quickkly as penalty fees apply.
dman this kyeboard.

I saw a TV programme where a guy was buying rough as **** ex-squats (shells basically) in the roughest estates in England for about £30K as auction and then selling them on the next month and making about £5K just by sweeping up, boarding the windows and removing the druggie needles etc. A days work for £5K.
