Absolute barstewards of the first order. US Immigration has (or at least, had) a firm policy of employing retarded, overweight, ultra-nationalist halfwits with the table manners of Mr Creosote.

Dallas isn't the worst though. I have to reserve that honour for the good people of Miami International airport. With them, a couple of swamp crocodiles and a room with a lockable door I could have made the world a much better place.

No. I haven't logged in to Jobswerve or changed my criteria for over a year.

& were the Immigration stormtroopers at Dallas International their usual cheery helpful selves?

I think its because the dollar:GBP exchange rate is strongly in favour of contractors from the UK (and the agents have sussed this out). It turns out to be cheaper to ship people in than to hire local talent.

The same thing happened in 00/01 when the exchange rate was at similar levels: I was part of a team of 6 shipped out to Dallas for 6 months in 2000. Even allowing for transport costs, we were 25-40% cheaper than equivalent level local staff.

As we do to Bangalore, so Dallas does to England.

Dallas was dull as ditchwater, by the way. Once you've done the grassy knoll and the Dallas soap opera house, there's not much else to do but shop and eat.

But why have lots of different agents from across the States suddenly started to do this at the same time? Something must have triggered it.

As I said, I now get six or seven a day, whereas I've never had more than six or seven a year before that!

I think it's the people that use it.

I don't search on location, there aren't enough relevent jobs for me to bother.

There have always been Euro jobs on JS and for some time there have been some aussie jobs (always posted around midnight, strangely!).

Now there seems to be a spate of US jobs. Perhaps they have started to market themselves there.

Several different pimps. For example yesterday, out of 15 jobs, nearly half were in the States:

    Dallas TX (pimp=Technical Focus, Inc.)
    Torrance CA (MIDCOM Corporation)
    Houston TX (PALADIN Consulting, Inc.)
    Richardson TX (Technical Focus, Inc.)
Milwaukee WI (Systems & Programming Solutions, Inc)
    Irving TX (Technical Focus, Inc.)
    Grapevine TX (Technical Focus, Inc.)

Today I've got some different ones, including Canada.

The Offshore chappie sat next to me is returning to India at the end of this month - assures me that the next place he is heading off to is the US.
