The law states that children of naturalised British citizens (i.e. 1st gen immigrants) born in the UK are British. So from 2nd gen on.
A few may fall through the cracks e.g. Windrush due to ignorance, but that is the law.

I had a look at how many students overstay and not surprisingly data is sparse mainly as the government is too incompetent to collect it - much as they were too incompetent to limit EU migration using it's own rules. Departure of people from the UK is not checked (unless you're on a terrorist watch list) except sometimes through a survey in the airport.

So essentially the student figures completely distort the immigration statistics - It's possible most stay here (although a student visa doesn't allow you to) or its possible they all go, we'll never know.
