I've yet to meet a lawyer or doctor or dentist or even plumber who's negotiable on rate.
If the jobs £2K it's £2K
(unless there is cash involved and the only loser is the taxman).

It's quite simple. Tell them what you want and mean it, i.e. if they can't deliver the rate you require then you're not interested.

When your backs up against the wall you do what you have to do. But for initial rate conversation with said pimp there is really no point in telling them your rate but you would accept 15% less. Thats 15% more margin in his pocket straight away...Originally posted by mcquiggdThe real conversation:
Pimp - Whats your rate?
Contractor - £600/day
Pimp - You have to be kidding? The client might go to £400..
Contractor - £600/day.
Pimp - Next!
Job gone, to someone else...

Good.
If the client is tight on money they can feck orf.
I'd rather lose 50% of the contracts and charge twice as much and have 6 months of leisure time.
Next.

Had a discussion with a pimp today (current one) who said I was selling myself short and I should ask for more money.
I'm still in shock.

Not a good idea - it's a stick to beat you with.Originally posted by FranckoDo you reckon it is a good idea to write your current salary/rate on your CV or it's just useless/negative?
However, I disagree with milan here - whenever I talk to an agent about a job one of the first things I want to know is how much (ball-park will do) the pay is. I don't want to waste everyone's time discussing much else (and especially doing an interview) if that is a show-stopper.
Agent: "Great job, are you interested?"
Me: "How much does it pay?"
Agent: "12 pounds an hour."
Me: "That's crap, even milan earns more than that!"
Agent: "No he doesn't!"
Me: "OK but it's still crap. Not interested."

Some of the 'old timers' don't either.Originally posted by FranckoA pity that newbies don't know how to make a search and only find something that is completely unrelated..
I tried ity once for a thread that I knew was there and it didn't find it.
Haven't used it since.
