Interesting piece in the Torygraph which would seem to explain Mrs Thatchers feelings towards Pinochet.

London is far more heavily populated than most other major west european capitals and I think most people live here for the opportunities presented by its comparatively raging employment market.

Cetainly not advisable to live there when bird flu hits.

Probably agree with that. There are plenty of things I wiould miss - country pubs, walks in the country, London's nightlife etc. I just think Labour have tipped the scale, especially in London, so that the negatives outweigh the positive. Let's hope it's temporary.

No. Unlike you I speak from experience. I actually had an IT (programming) job there for 5 years and loved it. Only came back because the missus was missing her family. What's not to like? Great food and wine, peace and quiet, and some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. What I miss most is the short drive to the ski slopes. (guess Dodgy is right about WHY you'd want to live there). I'd go back like a shot, and I think I could find a job as well. Now just need to persuade the missus to give it another go ....

It also depends what sector you're in - France has a plenty of jobs in retail, manufacturing, agriculture. If you're in finance and want to make lots of money in the City then you have to come to London. Come to think of it all the French people I know work in the City.

PS The IT sector in France is pretty crap too. Plan B, anyone?
So its not so great after all is it?
