Isn't that the place where the road sign said "Dore, twinned with Hell"?

I once had a problem with some youths where I lived in Doncaster and well remember the comment from one of the plod "What are you doing driving that sort of car in that kind of area?"

I was already part way through emigrating to Denmark, so I can't say it made up my mind.

Socialism and entitlement culture is so entrenched in society you cannot stop it. Under the Fabian government wealth redistribution has reached epidemic proportions and will no doubt get worse as the EU expands. Violence will be the only way eventually.

This is not new. I had exactly this conversation when at school. As I am now 42 that was a good few years ago. The trouble here is that having created a welfare state, we have also created a sub-strata of society that believes that what they want someone will provide and it's not long to say what I want I'll take.

To be honest the problem is so entrenched it is unlikely that it will be undone that quickly. I do wonder sometimes if we should make benefits that absolute minimum required. In otherwords give you a roof above your head and food in your belly. We also seem to have this daft idea that being poor is something like having only 40% the average wage. This is absurd not least because their will always be the poor. Try defining it as not having the minimum required to live. One thing I really would like to see is an end to the plaintive cry of I can't get my fags/Celeb mags/Sky/DVD/VCR yadda, yadda, yadda. Get stuffed! I'm not bl**dy paying for someone to stuff a burning leaf in their gob. I'll happily help them pay for food (and that is not defined as x pints of Fosters either) but luxuries such as fags and sky are totally out of order.

I must admit I hide my wealth all the time, and I always find myself apologising for it...but thats probably because most of my friends/family are rock bottom skint. I'm the odd one out, and I'm never really sure how to deal with it.

I think you're definately right (yes, me agreing with you) about the culture of kids these days - they expect things to be handed to them on a plate.
You just have to look at the multiple surveys of career aspirations of teens in schools - most young girls want to marry a footballer or go on Big Brother! Those are their career aspirations!

Round up the it's not fair brigade and put them all in a big arena with £50,000 cash.

Tell them that the last one left alive gets the cash and then do the survivor for mass murder.
