They'll be able to buy virtual houses with their virtual coins. Google Cardboard for everyone in cardboard city with aspirations of living in Slough, and Oculus Rift for all the homeless in London dreaming of streets paved with gold.

Won't be long before people are begging to be plugged into the Matrix.

Will have to go some to beat the guy who says he chucked out a hard drive with his wallet of 7500 bitcoins in 2013.

What would they be worth at current value? Worth buying the landfill site and emptying it?

Nonetheless, he continues to believe, as he did four years ago, that Bitcoin is the future of money. "I still think it's going to go higher. I just think it's the next step of the internet, which is why I mined it in the first place. When I first came across it, I knew straight away. We had everything else at the time; Google, Facebook, they were already the market leaders in their areas. The only thing that was missing was an internet money."

There will need an online money backed by central banks at some point. However it will not be bitcoin. Which will be heavily regulated and worthless.

Google says that 1BTC is currently worth 7267.49GBP, so his lost drive is currently worth about £54,506,175

Unless, of course, he is just winding people up.....
