I know a guy who was an engineer on a couple of cruise ships, which is probably a nice enough life, but now he works as part of the crew on some billionaire's yacht. So he gets to live on a yacht in The Med, gets paid (probably tax free) but all his expenses are covered, and only really has to work when the boss is there, which isn't that often.

Living on a yacht

Anyone ever owned a yacht and used it as a base for doing contract work?

I'm thinking I could base myself anywhere from Cayman Islands out towards Reading along the M4 corridor.

I know yachts are considered a moneysink (hence the aphorism "the second best day of my life was the day I bought a yacht, the best was the day I sold it") but if one were to buy something relatively new, I'm guessing costs and maintenance could be minimised?

I see you can get a nice little 200' butty cruiser for around £20000k; if I could recoup most of this in 50 years time, could be a good accommodation option to see me through to the end of my contracting days.
