Socialist inspired envy.
The middle classes drive them, ergo, they must be banned.
I personally don't aspire to a 4x4. I think they are ugly, slow, thirsty and boring (a bit like my good self).
However, the more the leftie types despise them, the more I'm warming to own a couple of real big ones!

Why do people have such a feeling against 4x4's? Personally I feel that you should buy whatever car you can afford and want. If its a 4x4 then so be it. Why do we not have the same feelings shown to say pickup trucks which are bigger and often, due to the tax breaks, used as a car replacement.

A bint in a 4 x 4 really p*&t me off at the fuel station last week. She stopped to get her crisps and coke (no fuel) and blocked every one in. I asked if she could reverse back a bit be she replied " I can't reverse in that" The was abusive too and the other "ladies" supported her saying how can you expect her to reverse.

Totally depends on the 4x4. The cheap japanese (it is a 4x4 honest guvnor) ones tend to fall over quite easily. But real 4x4's built to go off road are much more stable.
