I am very fussy, I have hundreds of cd's, on each of which I like maybe 1 track and will not listen to the rest. I use limewire to download stuff, mostly old. I don't care if it's copyright etc. Usually get bored of the tracks I download after a few listens too but really struggling to find enough good stuff to keep my cd changer stocked,

Yep, I'm a down with technology type.
How come all the truly good things are analogue? Synths, vinyl, tape, guitar pedals - everything sounds so much better when it's not produced by a chip.
Digital? All marketing hype I tell ya.

For streaming stuff to hear new bands etc I use Last.fm

Can I just point out to the original poster that it should be MP3s and not MP3's. Easy mistake to make for the uneducated

playback via winamp, sony mp3 head unit and a crappy panasonic portable cd player. Flogged the iPod last week - can't be bothered with technology.
The music I listen to is sh*t so the quality isn't really a problem.

MP3 generally isn't all that good. Read about FLAC.
Note that these kind of downloads may not be legal where you are.
