It could just be the case that techies over here see more money in safer sectors or are traditionally more risk averse and prefer the safe routes. A good quant techie doesn't need to take risks.
We're also seeing our brightest bods go elsewhere, discovering graphene and pushing other science boundaries as tech routes.

And I'm not sure they can distinguish genuine start ups from foreign people opening UK subsidiaries.Originally posted by darmstadt View Post
The article seems to be positioning support for remain so I'm going to go ahead and claim that it is bulltulip.

A nice comparison of what happens when startups are sold for short-term gain.

The SNP are more interested in funding disastrous wave power projects to virtue signal their green politics than support technology start ups. Scotland has the worst start up record in the UK just now.
And Sky Scanner are almost as old as Google, you would be laughed at if you called Google a start up.

It would be interesting to better understand the number of actually useful tools that have come out of the valley verses the money sank.
Im not talking about the likes of Google/Facebook that just want to mine data from you to sell adds I mean companies that have a product that makes the consumer say this is a great tool I would like to buy it or subscribe...
Uber is quite good until you are back in the sticks but other than that...

Yes, but the only one I'm using, knowingly or "unknowingly", is Sky Scanner.
I mean, really, a game, a couple of E commerce sites, free accounting software and some security software, hardly the success story that he claims.
Especially when he was mentioning all the silicon valley start ups, its like comparing premiership football to the local league side.
