So I kind of was on the bench while I was doing a demo of some snazzy visual analytics to a company owned by a close friend of mine.

Were shocked to see what was possible with the combination of the technology and my skillset.

While the rate isn't great, it's actually in line with the current crappy market. The biggest benefit is that I am implementing my first Big Data solution in some pretty awesome technologies. The other amazing advantage is that it is (without exaggeration) 0.6 miles from my house. Given the current state of the market, the opportunity to build some awesome big data technology and analytics and the fact I can pop home for lunch means this is one of the best gigs I have had to date.
