Not to mention i find that I wan't to fall asleep at about 15:00 onwards if I have some beers at lunch.

Buying beer for the line manager so that you build up a good working relationship and are more likely to get an increase/direct at the next round of renewals is always a bonus

Beers at lunchtime are dangerous to the contractor's wallet. The permies are all "You're the rich contractor, it's your round". I tend not to bother for this reason...
