Can't see banks selling the road for £2 bln - M6 is pretty bad, but M6 Toll is pretty off and the prices are not serious for regular use - too much for too short drive, given okish alternative M6 - what's shocking is that building of that road only cost £900 mln - every fooking year should be new roads like this build BY THE FOOKING GOVT WHICH GETS LOTS OF CAR TAXES!

Traffic police chief did 104mph
The police chief in charge of traffic in Greater Manchester has been caught speeding along a motorway at 104mph.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Thomas was fined £450 and given six penalty points by North Staffordshire magistrates on Thursday.

He said he sincerely regretted his "error of judgement", but had thought he was driving safely at the time.

Thomas said he remained committed to reducing the number of traffic accidents caused by speeding.

A motorist was caught driving at speeds up to 149mph on the M6 Toll road in Staffordshire, the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) has revealed.

The driver was stopped by officers after being witnessed traveling at high speeds on the Birmingham relief road between Cannock and Shenstone on Sunday evening.

Last time I went to the Nurburgring it was €18 for one lap so clearly a wasted money making opportunity there.

Should be taken up past Stoke (ideally up to the M56) to make it truly useful.
Can't remember ever passing Keele services at more than 40 on a Friday afternoon.

For that matter it dumps you onto the M42 at the other end. Should have taken further round to join up with the M40.

I thought it was standard practice for muppets to cut across from lane 3 onto the hatched part to the slip road. I certainly don't just look out for trucks doing that kind of manoeuvre.

What I can't work out is how is that toll road constantly making such a big loss (tens of millions a year losses)? The stats say they get tens of thousands of vehicles using it each day, paying a fiver or more for the pleasure, yet still such big losses.

I was nearly totalled a couple of years ago when that happened, and I've seen it happening to others a couple of times.

We have that daily on the M20/M26 with foreign truck drivers pulling out without checking or seeing other vehicles

Would the buyer have to keep the toll road as a motorway?

It would be more lucrative to build houses all along the side, and turn it into a long residential street, a kind of UK Sunset Boulevard.

They should start building these toll motorways in and around London. £50 toll, it would be great for the wealthy BTL owners and contractors to whizz around the SE, avoiding congestions caused by renters and permies.

£2BN is pretty cheap if it doesn't come with debts. Only twice its cost to build.
