Not sure what you're on about, but if the Sun did "go out" then air temperatures worldwide would plummet below the boiling point of nitrogen within two or three days, meaning most of the atmosphere would turn to liquid and rain out, so that air pressure would drop to nearly zero.

It would carry on dropping until within a week or so practically the whole atmosphere would be a solid layer of blue "ice" a few feet thick.

So in short, I wouldn't worry about it ..

we've got enough maglites and candles

main thing is the fireplace in the living room, the thing can heat half the house and we can cook on it if needed

what a resource that thing as

each year, in mid march I switch of the gas central heating and continue for the last few weeks of the winter on the fireplace and then in autumn start with the fireplace and once we get the persistent cold switch on the gas central heating

this year the gas central heating has been off since mid march - next week that's eight months !

the fire wood costs a fraction of the gas bill, I use about 7 cubic metres of wood a year at 30gbp a cubic metre for hard wood

not to mention the house is insulated to the full, walls are 45cm bricks with 10cm of polystyrene on the outside 55cm thick in total

Anyone else heard about this

a colleague mentioned it at lunchtime and said what would I do

I said at chateau benes we have enough food to last three months, in the absence of gas and electricity we can cook on the fireplace in the living room - we already do jacket spuds in the fire for fun during the winter, we have 20 tons of firewood

one thing, just in case it does happen I'll diesel all the cars in the benes fleet this weekend
