Because once we ruled the world and lost, so this makes us all failures. As opposed to the Germans who attempted to take over the world twice, lost twice, but fancy a third go.

I prefer to think along the lines that once Britain ruled the world and then realised that was the wrong thing to do. Unlike other places that seem intent on controlling the rest of the world - I will name no names but I am sure that you can work out who I mean.

Anyway the world is littered with examples of places that Britain has withdrawn from to the great satisfaction of the locals - Ireland, Isreal, India/Pakistan, Iraq, New Zealand.....

I think that he will behave in the first half but 7 minutes is long enough for whatever he has been told in the dressing room at half time to disappear from his head and the normal rooney will take over.
