I think jobserve is often full of ads these days fishing for cvs on the off chance that a client does need contractors or for agencies business development.
You might have more luck if you network with local companies and consultancy firms direct in your area and see if they need resources. CGI could be one to try?

Just regular places like Monster. Agencies will do keyword searches to find relevant CVs if they find a position they need to fill, find your CV and then contact you.Originally posted by douglas prada View PostHmm that's the thing. Or, as happens sometimes, they will want to find more positions that they can try to fill, do a keyword search, download your CV and then call you asking for past references in the hopes that they can contact people who hire contractors and get themselves signed up.

Not in your sector, but I think this is true generally.
Jobserve may be useful for getting your CV out to agents, but I've never got a job off it. Sometimes I've called an agency about a job advertised after applying and instead they've wanted to talk to me about a completely different (unadvertised) job, most often they have no interest in talking.
I do find LinkedIn useful (other people say less so) and I've had a few direct enquiries from agents who are trying to find someone for a role.
Otherwise, I've had my CV up on various jobsites and received enquiries based on that, or looked on agency websites and contacted them directly about roles - again, it often seems that they don't want to discuss the role I've seen, but have something else. Not that I'm implying agencies put up adverts for roles that don't exist, of course...

Agencies for Banking IT in City of London
Hi.
I've been in the same role for 10 years and recently stopped. It was quite niche in IT/capital markets, but basically c# multithreaded applications for live trading with Excel for prototyping etc.
I'm finding just applying via jobserve generates 0 interest pretty much.
What do the panel reckon is the best way to deal with this ? Is it cold-calling agents ? Or applying direct off their own web sites ?
Apologies if this is a stupid question.
I do kind of realist it's Christmas now and pretty much everything would be on hold until January, but...Tags: None
