I think this tops the lot: £1-2, per annum? No doubt they expect you to suggest a rate, but still.

Windows 2008 does something similar in a more scalable fashion. I think its called Remote desktop Applications, Ive never done this so cant say how easy it is.

All this said, it could be something quite easily fixed like a permissions problem, registry difference, DLLs missing.

Bespoke apps not working on new PCs? I'd wager they've changed to 64bit.

I saw a contract of interest last week. It wasn't until i contacted the agent i found out the length of the contract.

"1 or 2 weeks he said, they just need some changes to software they (the client) are currently using".

My interest was quickly replaced with doubt and back-tracking.

"Errrr, actually, i may not be available until the end of the year"

good luck to them filling this one.
Yes I saw that and my first thought was that it takes more than a day to get the credentials and forms signed just to get a pass and a network account, and even if this was ready then what can be achieved in a day when lots of internal Guru's had weeks getting nowhere?

I can almost feel sorry for the agent tasked with finding a mug on the cheap to deliver the impossible, maybe I should apply for a laugh?

Depends on the size of the orgainisation I suppose, but when HBOS did the same exercise when moving to XP on the desktops, it had about 50 accenture consultants on it for 18 months and cost millions

    Avoid one day contracts!!!!

You can guarantee here that if they're only willing to pay for a day they're going to want miracles. They'll expect a months work done in a day and if you dont manage it they'll try not to pay up.

they want someone to come in, research all the bespoke apps that arent working on windows 7, find a solution and then create an image implementing all the solutions.

all this in 1 day for an "excellent" rate.
