A lot of them will be fishing calls asking about who you worked for as they are trying to get people into the last company you worked for. This can be another illustration of some agents stupidity as they will presume if you don't put locations on your CV (which there is no point in doing) all your roles were in the UK or that your entire team weren't contractors.
Others will try and ask you for references as a condition of putting you forward. If the agent is genuine they will be happy to only get these references after you have secured the role. See this thread for more details.
A few of them will be real roles.
