If only it'd been so obvious to you that, just like public sector work, your fuel tank was going to dry up too.

On a similar tact, how would I down play the PS part of my CV that has been my sole line of work for the last 10 years

The Guardian covered this topic (public sector workers) recently.

Lie? We're not all part of the 'gis a job' brigade, desperate to drag a contact out as long as possible just for the 'MONEY'.

We are just coming out of a bad period looking for work - August is notoriously slow due to personal holidays etc and decisions being put off. Judging by the calls in recent days things have picked up in early September, however it's definitely slower than I've been used to in the past (I've never actually been looking at this time of the year so can't make an informative comparison).

The defence industry is definitely fscked though.

I am due to roll off my project in the new year. Project is going well but the environment is ever changing. I would like to "get out" as being up north is killing me in terms of social life and im knackered at the weekends when I have one heck of a commute back. I want to take a month off too in the coming months therefore in the predicament where if I was to start somewhere new they wouldnt be keen on me taking a month off straight away.

Talking to another contractor today the market is dire at the moment in Public Sector. If you don't have the background don't bother... its turning into very similar to finance without the lucrative rates! Atleast the people you work with are nice and they genuinely do care when try to deliver a service. I am talking about specialists in the public sector trade i.e. nurses!

The truth is, the 800 quids a day public sector contract gravy train has shuddered to a complete halt. Too many people for far too much time hung on to the public sector teat and milked it. Labour was only too interested in winning the election and so borrowed incessantly to keep this train running. If you can get out of public sector, get out now, it is bad for perm employees so it will be carnage for contractors.

I contract solely with NHS organisations and have been on the bench for 6 weeks. Very little out there, so having to tap contacts, including pimps, and see how it goes.
