Since this post I've been in touch with a couple of umbrella companies tat have experience in the Danish market and their proposals show a better retention than I initially expected, although their fees seem quite high at around 4%.

You cannot compare the fees quoted by UK umbrella companies and European ManCo companies.
The UK umbrella market is highly competitive whereas there are about 10 relable European ManCos.
The other difference is that none of these ManCos actually do the payroll themselves.
They Sub contract the actual payrolling function to a local accounting firm so I guess the one that quoted you
pays 2% to the accounting firm and 2% is their actual income for handling the paper work.

If you go permanent (e.g. via Danish umbrella if there are any) you will pay a reduced tax rate for first 2 years ... may be more profitable in some cases

Hi, you could always use a company that do invoice only services. That way you could use a UK Ltd company and pay tax here in the UK. I have worked in Denmark a couple of times on contract and the Danish authorities are not switched on to going after those operating in "grey areas". It is a cracking place to live and work though, good choice!

Hi there, I hope someone on here might be able to help me.

I am currently looking at a contracting position based in Denmark (I currently live in the UK). If I take the position I intend to commute to Denmark on a weekly basis. I would like to know what my options are with regard to continuing to pay UK tax rather than Danish (which could mean 60%). I believe I would be able to offset my travel/living expenses against tax in the Danish system.

I don't have a limited company, and would rather use an umbrella company for ease (as this is my first contract!) for the moment. If anyone knows of a company they could reccomend for advice I would be very grateful.
