No, there is no limit. Before my project got canned, the project required everyone to be cleared for a further five years, so I had to apply for a renewal with 3 years left to run on mine.

I've had to fill out ALL of the damn forms even when starting a new contract before just so they could verifiy the existing clearance - very annoying.
I can ask a security controller later, but anyone know if there is a min/mix time limit for applying for a renewel. Obviously 8-10 weeks should be allowed as a minimum (or risk being pulled off site temporarily), but is there anything to stop someone applying for a renewel 6 months in advance?

That's all I needed to know really, just a bit paranoid as my security dept doesn't have a clue! Thanks for the info.

There is a renewals process, but you still complete the same form. There is a separate form that the sponsor completes, which has a check box for what kind of clearance you are going for - there is a separate box for SC Renewal that they need to tick.
HTH.
Edit - in terms of getting clearance any quicker, it doesn't seem to make too much difference. Current SLA for a new SC is 6-8 weeks from DVA. I've been waiting 6 1/2 weeks now for a renewal...

Security Clearance renewal process
My security clearance is coming to the end of it's five years and requires renewing. My current employer has asked me to complete the 1109 form again, this is the form you fill in to kick off the inital application in the first place, does anyone know if there is a renewal process as oppossed to doing everything again from scratch?
I have concerns as my companies security team is pretty useless and I don't want to start the process from scratch if it's going to take 4-5 months when I could possibly renew it staright away. I have absolutly no faith in my companies security administrators as a number of our onsite team have had documents go missing, one guy had to submit his forms three times as they kept losing them, not very good when you consider there are photocopies of passports and utility bills involved.
Any advice would be much appreciated.Tags: None
