An ex-colleague of mine is currently working in Iraq in Personal Security. He is absolutely raking it in and plans to retire when he gets back.

He is ex-military and a bit of a nutter by all counts, but he told me that if you are good, and you can handle the horrors you will see out there then you can make an absolute fortune. In Cash.

Apparently it is far worse out there than we are allowed to see on the news, and no sign of things getting better.

I was in the bank on Saturday.

Chappie in the queue was hailed by friend.

"Where've you been?"

"Just come back from Afghanistan".

"Where're you going next?"

"Iraq. The contract rates are very good at the moment".

No idea what he does, but I guess it probly doesn't have a lot to do with computers....

Couldn't pay me enough to even consider it...

I've been offered a 6-9 month contract in Middle East and want to ensure that I don't get ripped off! Can anyone please give me some idea of what daily rate I should expect (including expenses etc).

The position is as a senior ERP Implementation Consultant working on client sites for a software house. The ERP is not as well known as SAP etc. but is widely used in North America and also has a reasonable size UK customer base.

The work will be mainly in the UAE, Eygpt & Saudi. In addition to having over 8 years experience with the product (in over 20 implementations), the key skills that I have been employed for are:

- Project Management
- Business Analysis
- System Design/Development
- End-User Training
- Implementation
- MS SQL Server & Sybase
- MS-Access (VBA/DAO)
- Business Objects

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
