Key Word Searches
FWIW I would hazzard a guess that Key word searches also search document properties, so one way to appear in the searches is include a bunch of semi relevant keywords in the appropriate section of the properties.
As they sy at Tescos, Every little helps.

Its the clients!
Isnt this phenomena due to the fact that clients would like to hire 5 or more contractors but only have the budget for one or two, so if they can get some mug(s) to cover all the bases, then they can spend the money on something equally as useful like giving him/herself and their permie teams a pay rise and some off site 'team building' events etc

I think part of the problem is that given the numbers looking, there are times when there is actually somebody available who is pretty much a dead on match

That is where I have been going wrong thenOriginally posted by TheRefactornator View PostYou're right it is happening and this type of hiring environment only benefits the bulltulipter because no-one really has every skill on the shopping list. Personally I'm not the bulltulip type which is probably why I've been benched for ages.
Getting fed up of matching 9 out of 10, for the 10th skill to suddenly turn into a 'Must Have'

requirements
I seem to be seeing clients taking the opportunity given by the poor market, to extend the requirements/nice to have list to include every skill they can think of.
Strange behaviour, is it not? If they actually NEED A & B, and would like C, D & E, why then would they think that having A B C D E F G H I & J, at whatever rubbish level, is better for them than having A B C D & E and being very good at them despite not having G or H?
The tyranny of the keyword search. You either "have" a skill or you don't. Nobody ever questions how good you are at what you do, which I used to think was the point of contractors.Tags: None
