At present the market seems to be flooded by "pimps" that are trying to get contacts out of contractors as we all know.

My attitude is that if there is no JD then not even a chance or references.

Also you often get the question so what other roles are you applying for....?

Designed to allow them to send there candidate the details of other jobs to them, one way to combat this is to just state the industry that you are applying, such as Public sector or Industry...you get the picture and enjoy as they then state that they are going to send you the JD and hastily hang up...

Where did I go wrong?? Buying a house and getting married was where I went wrong - it's all good for the kids that hit it big and can retain it all - sadly regardless of how fast I earn it, the missus finds a way of spending it....

Maybe I'm not telling you anything about what I get up to - maybe I'm someone who can double bluff as well as the next person.....

    But you'll never know

    What's the problem?

Burn the pimp for a slap-up lunch and show them (don't give them) the paperwork.

    Job done...

Do you think we will have to give references when we sign up?

If you're Senior, there's a lot more to talk about, a lot more to consider closely in terms of cultural fit, drive, passion, interview technique, and not to forget that the agent will want a relationship with you so that they can put more people in underneath you.

It's worth meeting an agent, but turn things around - ask for references from them of other interims who have used them - you'll soon find out if they're full of tulipe.

I've been offered a role after going through this process. I was suspicious so I phoned the agency back and just said "Look, I dont want to be messed around if you are just trying to get references or sell me a training course, can you guarantee me that this is for a real role". THey assured me so I went in, got an interview a few days later and got offered the contract. The agency initially asked for 2 references but I said I wasnt prepared to give those.

Just talk to them and be polite - see what they say

Its always best to ask around : until you get the opinion you want to hear!

Personally I think 50% of pimps are good. Oddly about 50% of contractors a good too.....

Have you asked why they need this info? Personally I would meet up but not take the info : offer it when you get the gig.
