Well not all programming jobs in banks require banking experience. Usually becoming a permie without banking exp. is fairly easy, getting a contract is more difficult, unless you have an in demand skill.
Just keep scouring the adds, not all of them say banking experience is essential, quite a few have it as a "nice to have". It depends on how much business knowledge they would expect from you.

Guest repliedThanks for that!
However I was thinking more of working in the programming/ database support side of things..
would it be best to leave the programming, get a job shuffling paper around in an investment bank and then go back into the IT side of things?
I have scoured Jobserve etc for banking jobs but they all have that phrase "2 -3 years Investment banking experience required" Is there a website that caters for lower end IB jobs?
Thanks in advance

Guest replied..hi
Banking is quite simple, noddy might one say, however most people who work in banks have never done anything else so they think it's hard. Obviously banking is difficult compared to doing nothing (but only marginally).
Anyways if you really want to get into it (and you know there are far more interesting things than banking) then you'll find extremely "noddy" jobs in the bank (as opposed to simply "noddy"). Where you can start to learn.

Hi
How do you get a job in a bank in the city?! There seems to be loads and loads of jobs about with my skill set (sql server, vb etc) yet they all require investment banking experience :rolleyes . I have ten years in the IT industry in a variety of sectors just not wretched banking :evil
I guess my real question is how do you get this experience in the first place?
Although I have never worked in a bank I do have some knowledge of the markets and terms that are used as I have been doing a bit of trading myself....
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice
Cheers
