professional consultancies will have notice periods in contracts, if you want to get rid of Androids or Economical data services etc you have to pay a notice period.
The point about notice periods are whether they impart moo. If for instance they are rciprocal or force the client to pay for work not done. Its fine to ask for money to represent the loss of business, but not to force the client to give you work. Thats why IR35 is so stupid, it breaks existing business practices so New Lie can grab tax.

Guest repliedErr...you trolling? Surely if you can walk away from a project half way through with no notice, then the client should reserve the right to only pay you on completion of the job you started.

How can clients put notice periods in contracts? I just wonder as I've worked as a contractor overseas and There was never a notice period...only a clause which indicated a no notice termination. And once I was given the tap on the shoulder and escorted out.
This all seemed fair as its part of the risk of being self-employed.
Now I read postings that notice periods in the UK are enforceable. So where is the line between contractor and term-employee?
