Keep positive, and keep your options open. Even permiedom is only a notice period away from going back to contracting when things improve![/QUOTE]
i just look at permiedom as a short period where some other schmuck will pay for my mba course
The 'good' thing about applying for permie jobs is that they typically take so long to finalise, with 2, 3 or more stage interviews that there's a chance a contract may turn up before you get to the end of the process!
So nothing to lose edging your bets, except that's one game of chicken I don't relish.
Last downturn I went for one permie interview, quickly realised it was a mistake, and lived off my credit cards for a few months till a contract turned up. Paid off the cards soon after! Fortunately the gamble worked, I could easily have been landed with a big debt, and having to go permie anyway to pay it off, very slowly.
Keep positive, and keep your options open. Even permiedom is only a notice period away from going back to contracting when things improve!
Tell them that you have another offer - they will either come back with an update, or tell you to take it.
I am getting updates every other day, also I have not been asked for any names from my previous contacts. I have been told that three people want to interview me and the problem is getting the 3 people in the same room at the same time. I have suggested they could telephone interview me but they want to see me in person. Agent knows I have another offer and has promised to get back to me today. I will just wait and see!
I have accepted ( verbally) a permie offer to start in the new year, but have gad weekly telephone calls with agent over contract role, its been 2 weeks and still waiting for interview date. Role has only been advertised with one agent, and accordng to her they only have 2 people te want to see and I am one of them, However - does the role exisit ?

Surprise, Surprise - the interview tomorrow has been cancelled - apparently the server is broken. It may be the week after next now - How long does it take to mend a blooming server!
But I have another lined up for next week, which I touted for myself - previous client, I sent over my CV and asked if they needed anyone as I had spoken to my ex colleagues there and they said that they needed a contractor - BUT I have to go through an agency.
