    Part timers

I'm currently 'sub-contracted' by a consultancy agency to provide software support/development/helpline on an ad-hoc basis. No set hours, no formal contract, work from home etc. After a few months work I send an informal invoice and a cheque comes back. Annual income from this is - Mr Brown owes me at the moment so I'm guilt free.

I'm considering doing things the proper way. ie. form a Ltd, VAT register and get a contract written up.

    Pro's

    - I get a company name etc and can use it for VAT purposes for kitting myself out with new computer and stuff?
    - If I want to expand and take on other work I'll look semi professional

    Con's

    - It costs money and the income from the work isn't huge - especially as I'd lose the cash-in hand element to the work
    - More paperwork than actual work it seems.

Anyone else do contracting on a part-time basis - how do you go about things? Do you also keep your head down and just deposit cheques in the bank? Any suggestions?

Working...
