My last perm job was 2k less than the previous one. I changed to get practical experience at a bank of the software I'd been supporting. Within a year BigTime was born.

    Depends on options

If the only/best option was to accept a lower rate then I would take it. Better to have money coming in at a lower rate than be sitting on the bench!

Yep - £20 a day less but 10 miles from home instead of 320

Only if it meant a better job - If I wanted to move my career upwards and gain experience then I would accept a junior role, paying less until I got the skills/experience required then jumped boat to a better paid contract....

Yes - hated the contract, was being micro-managed, and sidelined, got offered a move back to another org I had worked for before & jumped. Canot remember exact figures, but about a 25% drop.
Lovely rate there, best I have ever had, but I would not want to go back there.

I left my first contracting stint to take a permie role (on much less money but still well paid) that was very close to home. We'd just started a family and I liked the idea of being at home for the extra 1.5 hours a day.

Yup...just turned down a 6 month extension that would have seen me move to the arse end of docklands, and instead taken a 8% cut to work in a more pleasant location. Improved QoL

I'd take a lower rate if it meant more money in my pocket (it was closer so lower costs) or my QoL would significantly improve...

I've done it in the permie world. Left one job for another paying about £15K less. Didn't regret it.

Not yet in 20 years contract. I have been terminated during recession and found something else that pays less.

But I would take a lower paid contract - it wll happen sometime.
