    When you refer to Automated Billing, are you talking about "Self-Billing" where you would get your clients to write your invoices on behalf of your businesses?

    Software packages should allow two seperate entries on an invoice. For a discount to be applied, you would typically have a single line with a positive price (The List Price), and a single line for the Discount (with a negative value).

    Not all areas of RBS are cutting contractor rates.

    Just remember that when you include it on your invoice, record it as a 10% discount applied to the start rate that you business charges your client. At least this way it will never be forgotten.

    It is a good idea to do this generally, even if the initial quoted fees are negotiated down due to market conditions.

    There are too many times where after agreeing a reduction, the reduced amount is soon considered the normal amount, and then used as the basis for reducing it further.

    Basically, if you ask for £500 per day as standard fees, and agree to do the project at £450 per day.

    Write the invoice as:
    Consulancy Fees 5 x £500
    Discount applied to Consultancy fees = 5x £50

    Net = £2250 + VAT

    Just remember, it is a Discount, so treat it as a Discount - everyone else does.

    I wondered that.

    The Resource Solutions RBS contract used to be an IR35 fail but that was 2 years ago, I believe it has changed a bit since then, but I don't know if it any better IR35 wise.
