I also thought of an idea like this and I don't see why it could not be arranged such that it was not like a conventional 'temp' agency arrangement.
So, I'm willing to make a special arrangement at something like the 5% margin vetran suggested.
Any takers?

Guest repliedYou need to call it an outplacement service, or something similar.
You will use your consultancy expertise to assist the candidate to find a job ( CV planning, psychometric tests, coaching etc).
Agencies do not do that.

No reason not to supply marketing and research for small businesses. IMHO the key words in the act are :
The Act does not extend to sub-contracting i.e. independent contractors undertaking specific tasks using their own staff acting and remaining under their direction and control.
As true freelancers are not seeking employment then they are not covered by the act one would hope
Supplying IR35 friendly contracts etc may help?

Reccon/DA - My business is happy to pay your agency an extra 5% margin for up to 3 months on any decent rate you manage to get for my skills on a project over 3 months.
- Contract needs to be passed by my lawyers or be standard PCG one and reflect the reality of the situation. That should help you to your first million.

Yep, It is illegal to charge a candidate a fee to look for work... otherwise with the state of the market at the moment I would have been a millionaire!!!

The Employment Agencies Act 1973 makes it illegal for an agent to charge a candidate for looking for work. Hence why all agencies charge the employer.

Job Hunting
Could you guys give me some feedback.
I am thinking of developing a recruitment business, I have a lot of contacts in major companies & have been in management consulting for large to small companies for last 10 years.
I want to offer 2 services:
1. Recruitment for employers where I only charge the new employee - not the employer. Example: I take 8-10% of daily rate from contractor. There are a few considerations to make here to ensure all parties happy with arrangment.
2. On a subscription basis, approx £75/month min. 3 months, I would scour the job sites, papers, agency sites, company sites for potential job opportunities that the candidate could be suitable for - the candidate applies if suitable. My objective of the service is to use my experience & provide an additional channel to the job hunter. The candidate could do all this themselves but I am offering a relatively cheap backup or complementary service to heir own efforts.
Bear in mind this is an 'human intervention' service as opposed to getting large, unfiltered emails from job websites.
Basically, would you pay for this type of service and do you think my numbers are reasonable?Tags: None
