Now that sounds totally different! Having nice charts done in VB6 showing how real time system performs is great, however you don't need to know real time programming for that, its just interfacing with other system, you don't get to be an expert by doing it.

How can you use VB for anything so heart-stoppingly business-critical as a clocking-in system for some Brummies? What you need is Unix running SiebelSoft e-TurnUpOnTime on top of a Matisse OODB. So what if you only need 18 months system lifetime and you've only got a 5-figure budget? If you wouldn't monitor a nuclear reactor with it, there's no point using it at all, that's what I say.

I clocked in at 8.30 so why are you docking me 15 minutes pay.

Sorry but the new clocking system says you clocked in at 8.30 and 30 seconds which rounds up to 1 minute which means you were late and the timesheet system automatically docked you the pay.

Well, you can stuff your new system and give me back the money.

Sorry again but we have no control of the system anymore so just get in early next time.

Looks like they want to monitor a clocking-in system. They'll probably link it to an Access database or something.

I agree with the above, VB is just a RAD language I thought, beats me why it's so popular for mission critical apps, but what's it got to do with real-time unless they want one person to do the job previously done by two?

Real-time in computer programming context used to mean response being under 0.001 second or less (like software that does real time sound processing at 48khz 2 channels)
