Schedule?

I would be looking first thing in the morning and checking again every hour or so during the day. If I apply for a position I would follow up with a phone call to the agent if they hadn't called me back within an hour (even sooner if the market is slow or the job looks really good).

I also try and have a personal conversation with the agent instead of just being 'another phonecall'. I want the agent to remember me not just for my skills but because they enjoyed talking to me. This could be a big help when it comes time to forward CVs.

Since my first contract I dont think Ive ever replied and Ive certainly never called an agency about a role.

An agent told me most recruiters only look at cv's posted online within the last day, so I submit my cv to the regular job sites every day or two and then just take the calls.

I'd say deffo get CV's out before 10AM. by mid afternoon the pimp is probably packaging up all the resumes and mailing them accross to thier client. Being one of the first to get your resume in can only help the process.

Just was wondering what most people have as a schedule when they are looking for a new gig? We all know that opportunities can go quickly in the contracting world but do people literally get up at the crack of dawn to submit their CV for a role and be phoning the agent by lunchtime?

I am currently looking for a new role and if I speak to an agent by mid afternoon on the day the ad comes out I get told we have enough CV's.....

Opinions please.

In tougher times I've done the 8am and every 30 mins approach mentioned by Gooner, it can't do any harm if your CV arrives first. There is also ringing round everyone and anyone in your game to try and suss out potential work before it hits the agents. You could also tailor your CV for each advertised job and try and get an extra buzz word or two in there that may catch the agents attention. If it's a good job I'd follow up my CV with a call to the agent within 5 minutes.

I hit job serve every hour from about 0800, I'll apply for a job, then if its a good one follow up with a phone call......having said that last time, I spent 3 weeks looking, left the gig on the Friday, and was offered 3 gigs by the following Thursday.....
