    Yes, you are right - its perm role with benefits being offered on a fixed term basis and its likely that the client will want to pay me direct and also handle the tax/NI at source.

    The problem however, is with my work permit which is still with my umbrella company. My client and I are still exploring options to see if they can get my work permit transferred/sponsored. The initial discussions, however, seem to suggest that they haven't a lot of experience in work permits and other admin/paper work. The fixed term contract route was just one of the options that came out of the meetings but I'm not sure how and if it would work?

    I did fix term for a year once. You go on the clients books like a permy, get all there leave rights etc. But you lose your rights to temporary workplace travel for home to duty for your main site.

    You can ditch your umbrella for the lenght of the contract, unless you are going to do extra contract ad hoc etc.

    I assume you are talking abut a fixed-term salaried contract? In my humble experience, this means you are an employee of the client for the fixed period so they will pay you net. The umbrella will not be used and the pimps get their finders fee as per a permie position...

    So your situation is that the contract is no longer with the umbrella but with the client directly?

    I think (if you want) that the client will sort out the PAYE and NICs for you won't they?

    Fixed term contracts

    I've been contracting since 3 years now but it has always been through my umbrella company as I'm an employee of the umbrella. I've recently been offered a fixed term contract but I'm not sure how it would work in my situation - i.e. the PAYE and NI and also the salary bit.

    On my previous contracts, the relationship was between my umbrella/the agency/the client and my salary/PAYE/NI was handled by the umbrella company.

    Has anyone on this forum tackled this before? if so, would you please share your thoughts and feedback?
