This may have been raised before, but are there any reliable statistics for the number of active IT contractors in the UK, preferably broken down by job title?
There are a number of sites tracking the number of job adverts monthly but knowing how many contractors are potentially competing for each job would make those figures more useful.
Any suggestions?
When I started contracting in the 70s it was estimated that there were about 600 of us in London, for all IT skills together.
It has really gone downhill since then.
Anyway, I think Sally Anne is right. I will go before 2000.
This website doesn't show how many contractors there are in England but how many roles have been advertised. Also helps with rates.
Yes useful to some extent - especially to understand the current rates etc. But as you no doubt know many of these advertisements are fakes. A substantial number of agents post the same advertisements again and again sometimes several times a day. All these skew up the result of any statistics gathering program.
So I wouldn't interpret these numbers as number of jobs available in the market.
